I guess the title says it all - I'M SLOOOW!!
During the 20's the aeroplane (the term Airplane hadn't been coined yet) was still something very new and exciting. A lot of things were receiving design influences from this new wonder, including this Auburn.
You'll see that the air intakes on the hood sides are shaped like the cross-section of a wing , and the whole cabin / boattail look was from the contemporary aero designs of the 20's. The wicker seats were a direct influence also.
This was a challanging build at times. There were stages in the build processwhere I was intimadated, or just didn't have the skills yet to feel comfortable. The painting was the first stage , and then there came those hand woven seats. the first seat was hard enough to figure out, and took several attempts to get the weaving sequence to work, and look like wicker and a wicker type pattern. Not perfect, but I like it. (Yeah, I know I'm nut's, but it was fun), but then I had to make the second one .
Even though it took a lot fm time, I want to do it again on some kind of an open roadster, where they can be seen better, and hopefully each time I'll do a better job.
Most everything on the car is either scratch-built,kitbashed, customized, or custom re-shaped.
The seat frames are made from brass rod, and the seat cusions and door panels are made of Everygreen styrene covered with leather. The paints are all automotive urethanes that are clear-coated.
The headlights are Woodlights, hand formed from Evercoat Rage body filler being built-up on an aluminum post, and both hand shaped and sanded. The lens area's were carved out, and clear lenses from the parts box were reshaped to fit the recess in each headlight. The grill was hand shaped also.
Anyway, it's nice to finally have it done, and be able to enjoy it.
Thanks everyone for lookin' - Dave
