Stripping Enamel

Hello

I'm looking for good suggestions on how to strip the body of a car that is painted in enamel paint without ruining the plastic. I've tried Simple Green with no dice. Any suggestion will be deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance

Campaign launched to save Team Lotus

© Save Team Lotus
One side of the Lotus naming dispute has been put forward on a new and in-depth webpage called www.saveteamlotus.com. The basic background is that the Lotus Racing F1 team had its naming rights revoked for next season by Group Lotus and, in order to keep racing under the Lotus name, bought the Team Lotus brand off David Hunt, who had owned it since the original team?s last race in 1994. Group Lotus has now taken Lotus Racing to court to try and stop it using the historic name in Formula One next year. The issue has been a source of constant confusion for many fans and the new webpage offers a breakdown of David Hunt?s and Team Lotus? side of the argument.

Hamilton: Red Bulls will still be quicker

Lewis Hamilton was in a cautious, yet satisfied mood after pipping Sebastian Vettel in Brazilian Grand Prix practice. Hamilton beat Vettel by 0.167 seconds, while Red Bull’s Mark Webber was third ahead of Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso. It was all very tight though with Red Bull and McLaren set for a fascinating battle this weekend. Speaking [...]

Scuderia Toro Rosso presented the media their brand new STR6 in the pitlane of the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain, on 1 February 2011.

The STR6 is basically the second car, after its predecessor the STR5, that was completely designed by Scuderia Toro Rosso, following the introduction of regulations that banned the use of "customer chassis", a chassis developed by one team and purchased by another.

Toro Rosso STR06 ? Double Floor (Scarbsf1's Blog)
"Scuderia Toro Rosso (STR) launched their car on the first day of the Valencia test. It?s significance has been somewhat lost amongst the fanfare of the front running teams cars and the innovation of the midfield runners. However the new STR06 deserves more attention, as it has some unique aerodynamic concepts that are drawing praise from other teams engineers. STR have been able to reduce the cooling and packaging demands placed on the sidepods. Thus with a smaller sidepod envelope, the team have revived an old concept from Ferrari, the double floor."

Kia GT Concept set for production date in 2013

1.

Korean automaker, Kia, has been far more aggressive in expanding its company profile in the past couple of years and establishing itself as one of the most popular automakers in the world.

Now we’re learning that Kia is set to venture into a whole new market after news broke that they have green-lighted the production of the Kia GT Concept sports car for 2013. We first saw the GT Concept at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show a few months ago and were left breathless at the car’s cutting-edge design and significant - at least for Kia - performance numbers.

For the production GT Concept, Kia is looking at a comprehensive line-up that not only includes a sedan version, but also a two-door coupe variant and, quite possibly, even a station wagon.

What we do know is that the production GT will be made to provide the market a Korean alternative to many of the German automakers, particularly Audi and BMW. If you ever thought the day would come wherein Kia would be mentioned in the same sentence as those two German automakers, then your day has finally come.

As it stands, details on the production version of the GT Concept are still being kept under wraps. The concept we saw at Frankfurt carried a 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 engine with 390 horsepower so you can probably expect something along those lines.

Whatever the case may be, Kia’s decision to push for the production of the concept shows without a tinge of doubt that they’re ready to play with the Germans. And the best part is, they sure as heck aren’t backing down.

Kia GT Concept set for production date in 2013 originally appeared on topspeed.com on Friday, 23 December 2011 15:00 EST.

I remember when...

I had more bottles of paint than I did kits.

I believed I could build all the kits that I own in one lifetime.

My life wasn't ruled by rectangular boxes filled with plastic parts.

Sometimes I think I need therapy to help me through this addiction.

Red Bull RB7 launch pictures (1st of February)

Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel presented their 2011 car, the RB7 to the media at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain on 1 February 2011.

Chief technical officer Adrian Newey explained some of the changes from the championship winning RB6 and the new RB7:

?Preparing for the new season has been an interesting challenge for all of us,? he says. ?There have been a number of changes to the regulations and while they are not as comprehensive as the changes for 2009, the major differences ? such a the re-introduction of the KERS system and the arrival of a moveable rear wing to aid overtaking ? have meant that RB7 is quite different to last year?s car.

?However, what we have done is taken the philosophy of continuing evolution. We have evolved RB6, which itself was an evolution of 2009?s RB5, and this is, if you like, the third generation of a successful lineage.?

Technical specifications
Chassis carbon-fibre and honeycomb composite monocoque, designed and built in-house, carrying engine as fully stressed member
Suspension (front) Aluminium alloy uprights, carbon-composite double wishbones with springs and anti-roll bar, push rod-actuated multimatic dampers
Suspension (rear) as front, except pull rod-actuated rear dampers
Engine Renault RS27-2011 2,400 cc (146.5 cu in) 90 V8, limited to 18,000 RPM naturally aspirated mid-mounted
Transmission Seven-speed semi-automatic gearbox with reverse gear Hydraulic system for power shift and clutch operation
Weight 640 kg (1,411 lb) (including driver)
Fuel Total
Tyres Pirelli P Zero

OZ Wheels (front and rear): 13"

Red Bull RB7 ? Open Fronted Exhaust Blown Diffuser (Scarbsf1's Blog)
"Despite rule changes Newey has found the loophole that allows exhausts to blow inside the diffuser for more downforce. Although the rules were revised for 2011 to try to prevent double diffuser and openings to allow the exhaust to blow inside the diffuser. The rules did permit openings in the outer 5cm of the diffuser, an area where teams have recently split the floor and created raised lip, coincidentally a practice first exploited by Newey on the RB5."
